Y es que no hay que humanizar en absoluto a los animales, sino únicamente entenderlos mejor; porque estas comparaciones son sobre todo para entender que los animales no son criaturas estúpidas que se hayan quedado notablemente por debajo de nosotros desde un punto de vista evolutivo, y sólo hayan recibido apagadas versiones de nuestra rica paleta en lo relativo al dolor y demás.

If we really are the most intelligent species on Earth—and I believe we are—why didn’t science approach this from the other direction a long time ago? Why are years spent painstakingly teaching lab animals sign language if modern researchers believe that their capacity to learn is less than ours? Wouldn’t it be much easier if we finally began to learn the language of animals?

because communication between people and animals will always be very one sided. People try to teach other species human language.

I find it endlessly fascinating when I think that every species of animal may see and feel the world in a completely different way, so you could say there are hundreds of thousands of different worlds out there.

Si de verdad somos la especie más inteligente de este planeta -algo que presupongo-, ¿entonces por qué la ciencia no recorrió hace tiempo el camino inverso? ¿Por qué esforzarse durante años en enseñar tediosos signos a animales de laboratorio, animales cuya capacidad de aprendizaje, de acuerdo con el estado actual de la investigación, es inferior a la nuestra? ¿No sería mucho más sencillo que nosotros mismos empezásemos al fin a aprender el lenguaje animal?

La ciencia es contraria a la sensibilidad de los animales hasta que ésta ya no pueda negarse. ¿No sería mejor argumentar, por si acaso, lo contrario, para no maltratar innecesariamente a los animales?
