“I lost myself the moment I found you.”
“You need something," he said, and when I stared at him, he added, "Your face."
"My face?"
"It's in need of my kisses.”
“At some point, Roth had gotten hold of my cell and replaced Zayne's name with Stony and listed his own number under Sexy Beast. What a tool”
“ "Don't be scared of Bambi" the demon said. "She's only curious and maybe a little bit hungry."
The thing was named Bambi?
Oh, my God, the thing stared at me like it wanted to eat me.”
“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils.”
“Your life isn’t about all you can’t do. It’s about what you can do.”
“If i sa thank you, will you go away?"
"Yes"
"Thank you" I said eagerly.
"I lied"
"What?" I looked up at him, frowning. "That's messed up”
“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils. No one is perfect, no matter what they are or what side they fight for.”
“Double crap on a cracker the size of my butt”
“The newcomer stood well over six feet, as tall as any Warden. His hair was dark, the color of obsidian, and it reflected blue in the dim light. Lazy locks slipped over his forehead and curled just below his ears. Brows arched over golden eyes and his cheekbones were broad and high. He was attractive. Very attractive. Mind-bendingly beautiful, actually, but the sardonic twist to his full lips chilled his beauty. The black T-shirt stretched across his chest and flat stomach. A huge tattoo of a snake curled around his forearm, the tail disappearing under his sleeve and the diamond-shaped head rested on the top of his hand. He looked my age. Total crush material—if it wasn’t for the fact that he had no soul.”
“When people inexplicably dissapeared into thin air, it was usually because they had a new zip code. Something like 666”
“You undo me. You have no idea how much you undo me.”
“Then I guess I'll just have to try biting again"
"You wanna try?" He leaned the curve of my cheek. "Let me suggest more appropriate places. I have this piercing.”
“You almost got plowed by a cab. And if you want to get plowed, I will gladly volunteer my services. I promise you I’ll be a lot—”
“Don’t even finish that sentence.”
“It was just an offer.”
“Bloodied and beat up like no tomorrow, Roth grinned at me as he dropped one of the Rack demons. “You’re still hot as a stone freak.” His gaze dropped. “Maybe even hotter. Damn.”
“I’m okay.” Zayne staggered to his feet. “I can fight.”
“I sure hope so … Because if you’re just going to lay there and bleed, you suck.”
“Roth heaved a long sigh. “Look. I’m so—I’m sor...” He took a deep breath, trying again. “I’m sorr...” I turned my head toward him, waiting. “You’re what? Sorry?” He looked chagrined, lips pursed. “I’m...sorr-ree.” “Oh, give me a break. You can’t say I’m sorry?” “No.” He looked me straight on, serious. “It’s not in a demon’s vocab.”
“He let out a growl that shook inside my chest. “Demon.”
“Congrats,” Roth said tightly. “You know your species. Want a cookie?”
“I...can’t believe you have kittens.” I wiggled my fingers and the little guy strained to reach them. “What’re their names?”
Roth snorted. “That one is Fury. The white one is Nitro and the black one is named Thor.”
“What? You called these cuties something like that, but named a giant snake Bambi?”
He bent forward, placing a kiss on my shoulder. It was so fast I wasn’t sure he’d actually done it. “There’s sweetness in evil,” he said. “And remember, looks can be deceiving.”
“Some girl named Eva has him convinced that you put out after one beer."
"What?" My voice was as shrill as the ringing tardy bell
"I personally don't believe it" he went on blithely, "and I have a Porsche. Not as much leg room as a Beamer, but so much hotter, I'm told.”
“I’m a demon, Layla. What I see in your eyes and what I sense from your body is something I will take. Make no mistake. I’ll give you one chance. Close your eyes, and I’ll let this go.” I felt weak under his consuming stare, but I didn’t close my eyes. “Layla.” He said my name as if it hurt him. And then he kissed me.”
“You always seemed lonely. Even when you were with your friends, you were lonely.”
My chest spasmed. “And you…you’re lonely?”
“What do you think?” He shifted so that one leg was between mine. “But it doesn’t really matter. I’m not lonely right now. Neither are you.”
“Free will, huh? Damn. It is a bitch.’ And then he smiled-he smiled-at me, a real smile, revealing those deep dimples. ‘I lost myself the moment I found you.”
“Well, aren’t you special. Cocky much?”
“I’m all kinds of special, but you know that.”
“Just remember, you can only be young and dumb once. And that is a fine specimen to be young and dumb with.”
“If I say thank you will you go away?"
"Yes."
"Thank you."
"I lied.”
“I started to respond, but Bambi slithered up and placed its horse-sized head on my shoulder. Every muscle in my body locked up and I squeezed my eyes shut. There was a puff of air, stirring the hair along my temple. Bambi’s forked tongue shot out, tickling the side of my neck.
“Hey, look, Bambi likes you.”
I pried one eye open.
“And if she didn’t?”
“Oh, you’d know, ’cause she would’ve eaten you by now.”
Armentrout, Jennifer L. (2014-03-01). White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements Book 1) (p. 255). Harlequin. Kindle Edition.”
“trusted you.” “I know.” His hand landed on mine and squeezed gently. “I was pissed—part of me”
“I yawned so widely a bear could’ve mistaken my mouth for a cave and crawled in to hibernate for the winter.”
“Indeed, the condition of human nature is just this; man towers above the rest of creation so long as he realizes his own nature, and when he forgets it, he sinks lower than the beasts. For other living things to be ignorant of themselves, is natural; but for man it is a defect.”
“Foreign, for sure. But we all bleed the same color red. No doubt about that. The truth of that statement was plain to see. Reacher put the guy out of misery. A single shot, close range, behind the ear. An unnecessary round expended, but good manners had a price”
“The delegates to the peace conference after World War I "tried to impose a rational order on an irrational world.”
“I'm not denying that he's a terrific guy, but I'm not sure he's terrific for me.”
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
