“I think the truth is that we are in love with the fantasy of being that one person who could inspire, arouse, or affect someone who is so untouchable to the rest of the world. It makes us feel special; like we’re the diamond in the rough, the one in a million, the one that everyone else couldn’t be, and do what everyone else couldn’t do. Imagine being that significant to someone? To never have to doubt that he loves you, or needs you, or more importantly, wants you more than any other.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“I’m falling in love with you … and I’m going to let you destroy me.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Why? What’s your problem?” he asked, like this would be a surprise to him.
“What’s my problem? You’re acting like a bitch, and if I wanted a bitch, I would have adopted a dog.” I walked away from him as he mumbled something about writer’s block and stupid green eyes.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“You’re adorable when you’re angry,” he whispered, breathing heavily.
“Oh, really? Then get the hell off me, because I’m about to get gorgeous all over your ass.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Kade caught the condom with a quick flick of his hand. Yeah, great reflexes for a drunk, right? He arched his eyebrows up at me.
“It’s a condom, Kade, because if you’re going to act like a dick, you might as well dress like one,” I explained, smiling so wide my cheeks actually hurt.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Because Lainey, you somehow soothe the chaos that’s inside me. You heal me.”

“This…this is just a morbid filled ice cream cone dipped in psycho flavored sprinkles.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Everything that happened…to me…is stained here,” I whispered, touching my hand to my heart. “It will forever be in my heart, but what I want … is to move it over a little so I can fit you in there too.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Kade: “Fuck. Are your eyes green?”
Lainey: “Yes. Scandalous isn’t it? Maybe I should poke them out for you and insert a color of your choice? Are you against all green-eyed waitresses taking your orders, or am I the only lucky one?”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“It’s a condom, Kade, because if you’re going to act like a dick, you might as well dress like one,”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful

― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful

― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“There, I said it. We’re all adults here, right? I mean, I shouldn’t be ashamed. I’ve already told you my panties were wet, so my dignity was out the window.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“So, Francine seems sweet.” -Kade
“I wouldn’t know, Mr. Grayson. I haven’t tasted him yet. However, if I do get the pleasure of that, I will let you know how sweet it is.” -Lainey”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“She’s so different. She doesn’t have to get naked to get a man’s attention. She just has to walk in a room, glide in with her watery movements, and when she speaks, it’s of substance. You fucking want, no…you need to listen. She’s profound. It’s ruthless on my soul. She is a woman who still blushes when a man looks at her. She’s not a child, you know she’s lived some sort of difficult life and the mystery of her is breaking me. I want her to crack and break in my hands. I want to open her up and gut her.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire. Aristotle”

-Kade”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“If I’m not good enough because I’m a waitress, don't settle for me, don't sink down to my level. You don't deserve anything I have to offer. Let that shit hurt for a hot minute, simmer in it then leave me the fuck alone.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Coitus Interruptus!” I screamed. “Stop and put your hands where I can see them.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful

― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful

― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“It's a condom, Kade, because if you're going to act like a dick, you might as well dress like one.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Those green irises were like gentle pools of brilliant meadows of sage and green-envy coneflowers swaying in a warm breeze.
HOLY fuck. What the hell sort of poetry was that dribbling out of my twisted brain?”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“I appreciate your invitation, but I believe that every time that Fran of yours speaks to me, he’s actively trying to annihilate every last one of my brain cells.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Yeah, I was going to follow her. Staying away from her was not an option. I would have to staple myself to the damn seat to stop myself from running after her. Tearing out of the lot, I trailed them for a few miles, hiding myself behind a few other cars. Fran dropped her off at a grocery store. Psycho me followed her in.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful

“It felt…it felt like I had never had sex before. Yeah, yeah, I know how damn crazy that sounds, but…it was the first time the flesh beneath me came with heat, and scent. It was the first time I noticed the taste of someone, the touch that only she gave; the tingle that only her breath could cause on the surface of my skin.”
― Christine Zolendz, quote from Brutally Beautiful
“Physics, mathematics, music, painting, my politics, my love for you, my work, the star-dust of my body, the spirit that impels it, clocks diurnal, time perpetual, the roll, rough, tender, swamping, liberating, breathing, moving, thinking nature, human nature and the cosmos are patterned together.”
― Jeanette Winterson, quote from Gut Symmetries
“Lost friend, lost child, lost parent, sister, brother, husband, wife, we will not so discard you! You shall hold your cherished places in our Christmas hearts, and by our Christmas fires; and in the season of immortal hope, and on the birthday of immortal mercy, we will shut out Nothing!”
― Charles Dickens, quote from A Christmas Carol, The Chimes and The Cricket on the Hearth
“But there is another realm where we can always find something true, the fireside of a friend, where we shed our little conceits and find warmth and understanding, where small selfishnesses are impossible and where wine and books and talk give a different meaning to existence.
There we have made something that no falseness can touch. We are at home.”
― Kathrine Kressmann Taylor, quote from Address Unknown
“Мысли почти всегда быстрее глаз, они искажают подлинную картину.”
― Marlen Haushofer, quote from The Wall
“Dickinson left the rostrum to applause, loud shouts of approval. Franklin was surprised, looked toward Adams, who returned the look, shook his head. The chamber was dismissed, and Franklin pushed himself slowly up out of the chair. He began to struggle a bit, pain in both knees, the stiffness holding him tightly, felt a hand under his arm.
“Allow me, sir.” Adams helped him up, commenting as he did so, “We have a substantial lack of backbone in this room, I’m afraid.”
Franklin looked past him, saw Dickinson standing close behind, staring angrily at Adams, reacting to his words.
“Mr. Dickinson, a fine speech, sir,” said Franklin.
Adams seemed suddenly embarrassed, did not look behind him, nodded quickly to Franklin, moved away toward the entrance. Franklin saw Dickinson following Adams, began to follow himself. My God, let’s not have a duel. He slipped through the crowd of delegates, making polite acknowledgments left and right, still keeping his eye on Dickinson. The man was gone now, following Adams out of the hall. Franklin reached the door, could see them both, heard the taller man call out, saw Adams turn, a look of surprise. Franklin moved closer, heard Adams say, “My apologies for my indiscreet remark, sir. However, I am certain you are aware of my sentiments.” Dickinson seemed to explode in Adams’ face. “What is the reason, Mr. Adams, that you New England men oppose our measures of reconciliation? Why do you hold so tightly to this determined opposition to petitioning the king?” Franklin heard other men gathering behind him, filling the entranceway, Dickinson’s volume drawing them. He could see Adams glancing at them and then saying, “Mr. Dickinson, this is not an appropriate time...” “Mr. Adams, can you not respond? Do you not desire an end to talk of war?” Adams seemed struck by Dickinson’s words, looked at him for a long moment. “Mr. Dickinson, if you believe that all that has fallen upon us is merely talk, I have no response. There is no hope of avoiding a war, sir, because the war has already begun. Your king and his army have seen to that. Please, excuse me, sir.” Adams began to walk away, and Franklin could see Dickinson look back at the growing crowd behind him, saw a strange desperation in the man’s expression, and Dickinson shouted toward Adams, “There is no sin in hope!”

BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
