“Neither. I was attracted to him because he’s hot. Though, I stayed with him because he’s fucking awesome in bed.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I’m drawn to you, Alayna. Not because I want to hurt you or make you feel a certain way, but because you’re beautiful and sexy and smart and, yes, a little crazy, maybe, but you’re not broken. And that makes me hopeful. For me.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I will continue to seduce you. I’m a man who gets what he wants. And I want you.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You

― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“This, precious. This is for real.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Have you ever gotten to know a woman – nonsexually? Besides from a background check?”
“Not on purpose.”
His answer was quick and honest. And it pissed me off. “Hudson, you’re kind of an asshole.”
“So I’ve been told.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I never pay for sex, Alayna. When I fuck you, it will be for free.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Because you’re looking for something temporary. Something fun to play with.” I leaned even closer to deliver my punch line—the one that would deter even the horniest of men. “And I get attached.” I stood back up to my full height so I could take in his reaction. “Now doesn’t that just scare you shitless?”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I apologize for overwhelming you. That wasn’t my intent. But I want you to know that whether or not you decide to help with my situation, I will continue to seduce you. I’m a man who gets what he wants. And I want you.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“It was how he looked at me, in a way that no man had ever looked at me, a hungry possessiveness present in his stare as if he not only had undressed me in his mind, but had claimed me to be sated by no one ever again except him.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Anger flashed in Hudson's eyes. He grabbed my upper arms and yanked me toward him until my face was only inches from his. "Leaving you that morning was the hardest fucking thing I've done in a long time," he hissed. "Don't treat it lightly.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I've never been your boss, Alayna. If anything, you're the one who owns me.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I moved around the couch and started to dig through his piles in search of the device. “Wouldn’t you be more comfortable at a table?” Without looking at me his lips curved slightly as he said, “I wanted to be near you.” His answer surprised me. The other men in the room weren’t paying attention to us. He hadn’t said it for them. He’d meant it.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I want you hear because I can't bear it when you're not. I want you here because I want you with me - always.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Hudson?” I asked softly, hoping he didn’t see the full extent of my adoration in just the speaking of his name.
“Yes, precious?”
“You aren’t really an ass**le.”
He brought one finger to his mouth. “Shh. You’ll ruin my reputation.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Fuck!” I cried, unable to bear another climax, unable to live without it.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“Alayna,” his voice flowed over me like liquid sex. “I’ve got you.” I’ve got you. Boy, did he.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“I'm all yours, H. Every time.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“You’re not going to break me, Hudson. I thought you might, at first. Turns out you make me better. And I think I do the same for you.”
“You do.”
“If you decide to not…” I searched for how to say what I meant. “Follow through…with whatever this is that we have, it will hurt. But I won’t be broken.”
“But it would hurt?”
“Like a motherfucker.”
“Then we better follow through.” He drew me closer, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Alayna, you’re fired. You can’t be my pretend girlfriend anymore.” His face grew serious. “Be my real girlfriend instead.”
Joy swept through me in a dizzying rush. “I kind of think I already am.”
“You are.”
“Can I still call you H?”
“Absolutely not.” He turned his mouth to meet mine and kissed me with lips sweet and tender, but passionate all the same.”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“from earlier orgasms. He was slow and steady with his pace, less rough than he often tended to be, his usual sex talk absent. But, because of the things we’d shared, his measured thrusts felt raw, more intent on”
― Laurelin Paige, quote from Fixed on You
“As estrelas são ainda menos lindas que os seus olhos, e afinal nem sei mesmo o que elas sejam; Deus, que as pôs tão alto, é porque não poderão ser vistas de perto, sem perder muito da formosura... Mas os seus olhos, não; estão aqui, ao pé de mim, grandes, luminosos, mais luminosos que o céu...”
― Machado de Assis, quote from Quincas Borba
“The methods of meditation taught by the Buddha in the Pali Canon fall into two broad systems. One is the development of serenity (samatha), which aims at concentration (samādhi); the other is the development of insight (vipassanā), which aims at understanding or wisdom (paññā). In the Buddha’s system of mental training the role of serenity is subordinated to that of insight because the latter is the crucial instrument needed to uproot the ignorance at the bottom of saṁsāric bondage. The attainments possible through serenity meditation were known to Indian contemplatives long before the advent of the Buddha. The Buddha himself mastered the two highest stages under his early teachers but found that, on their own, they only led to higher planes of rebirth, not to genuine enlightenment (MN 26.15–16). However, because the unification of mind induced by the practice of concentration contributes to clear understanding, the Buddha incorporated the techniques of serenity meditation and the resulting levels of absorption into his own system, treating them as a foundation and preparation for insight and as a “pleasant abiding here and now.”
― quote from The Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha: A Translation of the Majjhima Nikaya
“Good hunters considered hunting a solemn privilege and a means to reconnect with the natural world, to place themselves back on earth, into a place without supermarkets, processed foods, and commercial meat manufacturing industries. Hunting was basic, primal, and humbling.”
― C.J. Box, quote from Blood Trail
“That's the truth about people with obsessively organised plans: we're not trying to control everything in our lives. We're trying to block out the things we can't.”
― Holly Smale, quote from Model Misfit
“Standing at the window, reading the menu of Obediah's services, the Minotaur wishes he could believe in what she has to offer: a promise woven into deep lines of his palm, some turn of fate told by a card. But faith is a nebulous thing and charlatans a dime a dozen; it's always been that way. The Minotaur both envies and pities the devout.”
― Steven Sherrill, quote from The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
