“So many Chimaerae," Nine says, nodding excitedly as he gazes into the darkness. "That's awesome."
"We named the chubby, lazy one after you," Sam replies.
"Less awesome.”
“I have to give it to Adam, he’s an excellent bullshitter.”
“Sam shakes his head, still marveling at the hulking warship. "So they have a secret weakness right? Like how you can shoot that one spot on the Death Star and the whole thing blows up?"
Adam's brow furrows. "What's a Death Star?"
Sam throws up his hands. "We're screwed.”
“Soon, the nonstop buzzing of the local insect life gives way to something equally annoying. Country music.”
“I am Number Seven I will make them pay.”
“People tend to change when they find out aliens are real.”
“Holy shit,’ he says. ‘Did I just do that?”
“Can I kiss you?" Marina asks him [Eight].
"I really wish you would.”
“I shouldn’t think of my situation as being held prisoner; it’s more like I’m on a mission behind enemy lines.
I’m a freaking spy.”
“Then, as if realizing we might be freaked out, the guy adds, ‘Hey. I’m Adam.”
“Give it some gas, Six, damn,’ Nine complains. ‘Drive it like we stole it.”
“They have him,' Marina hisses, pointing into the dark. 'They have his body and I'm not letting them keep it.”
“How do we know that’s really John?’ she asks. ‘Setrákus Ra can change forms. This might be some kind of trap.’ In my excitement to hear John and Sam, I hadn’t even considered the possibility that this could be a ploy. Behind me, Nine shouts towards the communicator.
‘Hey, Johnny, remember back in Chicago? When you were claiming to be Pittacus Lore and we had a debate about whether to go to New Mexico?’
‘Yeah,’ John’s voice sounds like it’s coming through clenched teeth.
‘How’d we settle that?’
John sighs. ‘You dangled me off the edge of the roof.’
Nine grins like that’s the best thing ever. ‘It’s definitely him.”
“I’m going to write the last chapter in his precious history. Right now.”
“If Five’s speech – clearly for our benefit – has revealed anything, it’s that he’s pretty much lost his mind.”
“It was my fault, too,” he continues. “I got him killed.” “That’s not true.” “It is. Five kicked my ass and I couldn’t help myself. Had to keep talking, had to show him. It should’ve been me. You know it; I know it; Marina damn sure knows it.”
“I hear Nine make an oohing noise off to the side and make a mental note to destroy him the next chance I get.”
“If Mark really had managed to acquire some information about the Mogodorians, and if doing so had gotten him into some kind of trouble, then we needed to help him”
“I know that he won't hurt me--not yet, at least. He's too vain for that, wants too badly to convert another Loric into the cause”
“Sam stares at me. He's frozen. His hands are extended out in front of him like he just shoved the Piken and still hasn't finished with the follow-through. Slowly, he blinks his eyes. Sam looks down at his hands, then over at me.
"Holy shit," he says. "Did I just do that?”
“Losing an eye gave me some new, uh . . . storage possibilities,” he says.”
“[John] ‘You guys saved me first,’ I reply.
[Sarah] ‘Yeah, obviously. So return the favor and save our planet.”
“Will you be able to fire this thing?’ I whisper to Marina.
‘Aim, squeeze, shoot,’ Marina whispers back. ‘It’s pretty intuitive, Six.”
“I’m looking at it now,’ Sarah says, and her breath catches. ‘John, it’s – you’re amazing. But I’m a sucker for handsome aliens performing miracles.”
“I spread my arms. ‘I’m open to them. Load me up. Give me enough Legacies to destroy Setrákus Ra and his fleet and I’ll leave your glowing ass alone.”
“I want you to think of me as a soldier,’ she persists. ‘A soldier in this war who’s doing what needs to be done.”
“So did I mishear over the communicator, or did you send your girlfriend off on a super-sexy secret mission with her ex-boyfriend?’
‘We’re fighting a war here, Nine, it’s not a joke,’ John replies sternly. After a moment’s awkward pause, a begrudging smile breaks on his face. ‘Also, shut up. It’s not super sexy. What does that even mean?’
‘Wow, you really need my guidance,’ Nine says. He throws his arm around John’s shoulders and leads him towards the house. ‘Come on. I’ll explain what sexy is.’
‘I know what it – ugh, why am I even discussing this with you?’ John shoves Nine in frustration, but Nine just holds on tighter. ‘Get off me, idiot.’
‘Come on, Johnny, you need my affection now more than ever.”
“We’re Garde,’ I say, correcting this billion-year-old godlike energy force, because what the hell, we’ve come this far. ‘We’re here for your help.”
“The General smiles at me again and asks, “Now will you run?”
“Son, you have to know what you want. If someone else has what you want, learn from them, but you must trust your own instincts to make the right decisions. The voice of inspiration will come only after you have a clear picture of what you are seeking, and after you allow yourself to feel truly grateful, as though you already enjoy the success.”
“I picked out F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" and a couple of mysteries, which always have simple, solvable problems like "How did the murderer get into the locked room?" instead of hard ones like "What causes trends?" and "What did I do to deserve Flip?" and then went over to the eight hundreds.”
“His little heart was so full of merriment that it could not hold it all, and it ran over into theirs.”
“We’re more than what we do.”
“Well, speaking as a feminist, I'm glad that women can lead--uh, groups of unspeakable magical evil."
"Yes," Alan said gravely. "It'd be shoking if the evil magicians were sexist. For one thing, that would mean they were stupid, and having stupid enemies would be a terrible blow to my manly pride.”
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
