“I like you, period."
"I like you, exclamation point.”
“You're like Mr. Romance and Mr. Porn Star wrapped in one.”
“You're weird."
"You're weird too," she said defensively.
"I guess that means we're perfect for each other." He stared into her eyes, challenging her to deny it.
"I guess so," she said.
He smiled.”
“This is why we work together," he said. "We're different, but harmonious".”
“He planned to keep her around for a while. Like an eternity, or something a bit longer.”
“Eric, this is Isaac. A dear, dear friend.”
Isaac looked none too happy to be called her friend. Eric extended his hand. “I’m Eric, Rebekah’s very possessive boyfriend.”
Isaac’s eyes widened.
“And lover,” Eric added. “We get it on constantly.”
“The past can't be changed," she said. "The future can't be predicted. All we really have is the present. So none of that matters to me.”
“What I won’t do is let you give up … And you’re going to have to do all the fighting, sweetheart. You have to be the strong one. All I can do is hold your hand and stand beside you.”
“Wait,” Eric said. “Do you have any camouflaged condoms?”
“Camouflaged?” The cashier’s forehead crinkled in concentration. “I don’t think so. We have every flavor and color imaginable, but I don’t think we have any camouflaged.”
“Why would you need a camouflaged condom?” Rebekah asked.
“So you won’t see me coming.”
“Are you saying good-bye or what?” Sed ased gruffly.
“Nope, we were making out,” Rebekah said. “His sexiness overwhelms me sometimes, and I have to kiss him.”
“Jace karate chopped his wrist, and Eric’s fingers went numb. “Step away from the eggs, Sticks.”
“He’d never believed one person was tailor-made specifically for him until now. He was starting to think like Brian von Romantic de Retard. Pretty lame. Yet so totally not. Now that he knew what it felt like, it wasn’t lame at all.”
“Eric lifted the long lock of hair that he dyed a different vibrant color every forty-nine days without fail and stared at it. His memory had served him correctly. It was currently cobalt blue—the exact same shade as the under-layer of her hair. What were the chances? It had to be kismet. Destiny. Fate. Providence. All of the above...
She’d said her name was Rebekah. That was Eric’s favorite name. At least, now it was.”
“I’m not the most precious, adorable, little thing you’ve ever seen in your life.”
“Is it too soon to tell you I love you? If it's too soon, I won't say it."
His heart swelled to bursting. "I love you."
She pinched his ass.
"Ow!"
"I wanted to say it first," she said.
"Fine, I take it back."
"Don't you dare.”
“That he didn’t demand to know why she was so upset and stupid won the guy so many brownie points, he could have led every Girl Scout troop in the contiguous forty-eight states.”
“If she didn’t get some dick soon, she was going to die.”
“The past can’t be changed,” she said. “The future can’t be predicted. All we really have is the present. So none of that matters to me.”
“They used to inject rabbits with women’s urine to determine pregnancy.”
“there was something undeniably hot about a woman who could handle a stick shift.”
“Eric tripped over his feet as he raced after Rebekah. Heart hammering, he entered the bedroom and closed the door, leaning against it for support. She was pacing the room, his essay in one hand, the ruler in the other. Was she going to hit him with that ruler? God, he hoped so.”
“I require but one kiss,” he murmured and wrapped his arms around her to draw her near. “That’s it?” she said, losing her accent again. “It is more than any leaf-gathering tool deserves.” He lowered his head and kissed her.”
“Quiero adoptar a los niños con más problemas en la existencia. Los que se portan mal y se meten en problemas. Los que fallan en la escuela y que tienen tanto dolor que puedes verlo en sus ojos. Los que son tan terribles que nadie posiblemente podría amarlos. Quiero eso para un niño, porque nunca nadie lo hizo por mí.”
“Before he could sweep her into his arms and carry her off to the nearest justice of the peace to recite eternal vows, she released him and hugged Jace, then Sed. Eric cringed when she plastered herself to Trey.”
“Perdóname, Dios. Porque estoy a punto de pecar.”
“Everyone yearns for heaven, and nothing binds you to the hope of eternal life like that kind of defeat on earth.”
“Sophia looked down her long nose at the girl. “Who are you?”
“I’m Abigail, ma’am,” she said, curtsying. “This is my brother, Jamie. I apologize for him.”
Sophia arched an eyebrow. “I’ll wager you do that quite a lot.”
Abigail sighed, sounding world-weary. “Yes, I do.”
“Good girl.” Sophia almost smiled. “Younger brothers can be a chore sometimes, but one must persevere.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Abigail said solemnly.
“Come on, Jamie,” Alistair said. “Let’s go into dinner before they form a Society for Bossy Older Sisters.”
“He thought that even naturalness can be feigned; at times, a mask disguises too well the expressions of a face that does not exist either outside or under it.”
“A good story should make you laugh, and a moment later break your heart."
— Chuck Palahniuk, Stranger Than Fiction”
“You lit all these candles..." She glanced at them, then back at him.
"I wanted it to be special."
"Any time we're naked in a bedroom together is special to me.”
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
