About the book
"We Were Three: A Story of Friendship, Love & Death" is a mystery novel by Indian author Himanshu Arora, first published in 2015. It follows Vikram, who begins a Master's program in Biotechnology at a college in Indore and forms a close bond with two fellow students, Ajay and Sameer. Their easy, carefree student life is shattered when one of the friends is murdered, and the survivors are pulled into an investigation that spirals into a web of deceit and violence.
At its heart the book is about friendship and the costs that come with it. As the trio try to uncover the truth behind the killing, the story weaves together threads of romance, betrayal, and sacrifice against the backdrop of academic pressure and everyday college life in India. Arora, a biologist by training, draws on a familiar student world to ground the mystery before turning it darker.
The novel was Arora's debut and was self-published through CreateSpace. It remains a small, independently released title rather than a widely reviewed one, but it reflects the author's stated aim of writing about whole lives and using fiction to explore relationships, love, life, and death.
