“A wise man does not always admit to everything he knows. And sometimes an overly-credulous friend can be a source of mild amusement.”
~Sherlock Holmes”
― Stephanie Osborn, quote from The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival
“That’s our cue,” Dr. Chadwick noted, managing to approximate a cheerful smile, addressing the room at large. “Everyone please stand behind the yellow line until the doors open. No food, drink, flash photography, or video cameras are permitted. Once aboard the ride, please keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times until we come to a full and complete stop. Otherwise, they’re apt to end up in another universe somewhere without ya, and wouldn’t that fry your noggin?”
― Stephanie Osborn, quote from The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival
“Suddenly the images in the center of the room became more than images. They solidified.”
― Stephanie Osborn, quote from The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival
“I am looking forward to fully understanding what is occurring. Other than the fact that we are well over a century in my future—if it is MY future; in America, in an underground government facility of some sort near the Colorado Rocky Mountains, specifically Pikes Peak, so I assume the nearest city of any import to be Colorado Springs…I am afraid I have little grasp of your project.”
~Sherlock Holmes”
― Stephanie Osborn, quote from The Case of the Displaced Detective: The Arrival
“Watson fully comprehended the fact that occasionally it is useful for one’s adversaries to underestimate one’s abilities.”

“You read me,” Myron said, “like Vasco da Gama reads a map.” Dimonte”
― Harlan Coben, quote from Fade Away
“But I’m not naturally thin. I do struggle. I do deserve credit every single time I think about something in a helpful way or engage in helpful behavior.”
― Judith S. Beck, quote from The Beck Diet Solution
“...he said almost nothing, and ground his teeth against his desire to tell them the truth: God is helpless. We are at the mercy of our own radical freedom, and all God can do is take into God's self the grief, the violence, the sublime acts of kindness, the good sex. God comes to us from the future, and has only one godlike gift: the lure. We are lured toward truth, beauty, and goodness...the lure is pulling at our hearts like some lucid joy inside every actual occasion and all we have to do is...Say yes.”
― Haven Kimmel, quote from The Solace of Leaving Early
“(...) rozwścieczyło to jeszcze bardziej, wypchnęła do przodu swój gigantyczny biust tak, że Haakani aż się potknął cofając, i palnęła, że lepiej by sobie possał cyca, jeśli nie ma nic ważniejszego do powiedzenia. Kobiety zarechotały szorstko, a Haakani poczerwieniał. Potem powiedział, że na palce będzie się siłował dopiero, gdy baba wychyli kieliszek wódki. Ponieważ była chrześcijanką, odmówiła. Sprzeczali się, wałkując temat tam i z powrotem. W końcu, z czystej złości, Hilma chwyciła spory kieliszek bimbru, wypiła do dna i wystawiła swój długi pazur. Wszyscy ucichli i przerażeni wlepili oczy w staruszkę.”
― Mikael Niemi, quote from Popular Music from Vittula
“. . . hope resides in the future, while perspective and wisdom are almost always found by looking to the past.”
― Greg Mortenson, quote from Stones Into Schools: Promoting Peace With Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
