For a moment he could have sworn he smelled violets, which was very peculiar, since he had no idea what violets smelled like, except somehow he knew they smelled just like Lady Emma.

Steeling herself, she rose out of her chair, looped her arm around Kenny’s neck, and planted herself in his lap. There's nothing more boring than listening to successful adults whine about how mistreated they were as children, is there?

What I'm trying to say is, as I get older, all the things I've done to make money have become less important in my life. I'm proud of the company. I've built it up from nothing and I'm sure as hell not going to stand by and watch it get eaten up. But when I'm sitting out on the patio on a Sunday afternoon and I start counting my blessings, it's the people I love that come to my mind, not the company.

Love that has to be earned on the golf course, or anyplace else, for that matter, isn’t worth it. Love has to be a free gift or it doesn’t have any value at all.
