The Last Arrow: Save Nothing for the Next Life

We can become so afraid of death that we never live, so afraid of failure that we never risk, so afraid of pain that we never discover how strong we really are.

Average is always a safe choice, and it is the most dangerous choice you can make.

It's odd how we prioritize the things the things that matter to us. We choose a career or job; we choose a city or place to live. We make so many things important to us, but in all the things we factor in as we craft our futures, we make the people in our lives a commodity of, at best, secondary importance. We would take a job and give up our people rather than choose a tribe and give up the job.

The great tragedy that I have witnessed over and over again is that we keep underestimating how much God wants to do in us and through us. Too many of us have believed the lies we have been told: that we’re not good enough, we’re not smart enough, we’re not talented enough, we’re just not enough. One of the facets of God that makes him extraordinary is his ability to do the impossible through ordinary, everyday, common people like you and me.

The tragedy of a life that is never fully lived is not simply the loss of that one life. The tragedy is the endless number of lives that would have been forever changed if we had chosen to live differently.

So often you blame God for the life you have, but you do not know what life you want. Certainly there is a dilemma here. The life you want may not be the life God wants for you. This is why the process must begin by loving God first. It is in loving God with all your heart and mind and soul that he begins to shape your passions. When God has your heart, you can trust your desires. His will is not a map; it is a match. He shows you the way by setting you on fire. You will know God’s desire for you by the fire in you! The fire in you will light the way.

Success will lie to you and tell you that your future is just an extension of your past, when at its best, success is simply preparation for new challenges.

If we choose to live a small life, we do not make enough room for a big GOD.

Life is a series of challenges, adventures, and yes, even battles. There will always be giants to subdue and dragons to slay. I have already decided to die with my sword in hand. There is more courage in us than danger ahead of us. You are strong enough for the battles ahead.

You'll be hard pressed to find any story in the Scriptures in which God becomes angry because someone has too much faith, too much determination, too much resolve. The truth is, we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. God puts the bow and the arrows in our hands and tells us to shoot and to strike. And instead of pressing the limits of what God could do in and through our lives, we assume that his intention for us is less and so we settle fo what we can do rather than what God intended to do through us.

I made a decision that while cancer may define how I die, it would not define how I live.

I found a strange solace and safety in my power of invisibility and made obscurity my residence.

I do not believe anyone is born average, but I do believe that many of us choose to live a life of mediocrity.

And instead of pressing the limits of what God could do in and through our lives, we assume that his intention for us is less and so we settle for what we can do rather than what God intended to do through us.

You need to act like your life depends on it, because it’s never just your life involved. You need to never settle for less because the world desperately needs everything you can bring to the table.

The shift that happens when you refuse to remain or be defined by the average comes when you cross a line others would consider madness.

This journey is about ensuring that when we come to the end of our lives, we will arrive at our final moments with no regret.

I want to live the kind of life that cannot be lived without the fullness of Christ in my life.

Sometimes God allows us to go through tremendous disruption so that we might choose the path to freedom.

Lo cierto es que muchos de nosotros pedimos muy poco de Dios porque pensamos muy poco de Él. Tenemos temor a hacer grandes oraciones porque si Dios no interviene, eso podría hacer tambalear nuestra fe. Estoy convencido de que con demasiada frecuencia intentamos proteger a Dios con nuestras oraciones. Le pedimos que haga solamente lo que nosotros mismos podemos hacer, para así no ponerlo a Él en una posición embarazosa y demostrar a los incrédulos que Dios no es tan poderoso como habíamos esperado. Puedo asegurarte que Dios no necesita nuestra protección. Él no necesita nuestras pequeñas oraciones para proteger su gran nombre. ¿Es posible que nuestros sueños son demasiado pequeños para Dios y que nuestras ambiciones son demasiado pequeñas para necesitar a Dios? Si decidimos vivir una vida pequeña, no hacemos espacio suficiente para un Dios grande. Una y otra vez en las Escrituras, Dios llama a hombres y mujeres que piensan muy poco de sí mismos para lograr cosas grandes. Dios toma a hombres y mujeres que se sentían demasiado pequeños para una vida grande, y los desafió a soñar en grande y a vivir en grande.

Cuando Jesús preguntó a los hombres “¿Qué quieren que haga por ustedes?”, no fue porque Jesús no lo supiera, sino porque necesitaba que ellos declararan lo que querían que Él hiciera por ellos.

¿no preferirías errar por pedir demasiado que por pedir muy poco?

No pude evitar pensar en cuántas veces en la vida somos invitados a una aventura extraordinaria y a oportunidades que existen solamente en nuestra imaginación, y dejamos que se nos escapen.
