“Keep your head high. Ain’t nothing to look at on the ground,”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I love you, Trace. I always have. Just remember that, okay? Hold on to it. No matter what I say or what I do... and trust me, I'll do some terrible things. Just know. I love you. With every fiber of my being.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Sometimes, Chase… it’s the emotional wounds that hurt the most.” I pushed back the anger and sighed. “I’d rather he beat me. Cuts heal, bruises fade — but broken hearts? They carry scars for a lifetime.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“For a moment, life isn’t as hard as it seems. Effortless. It’s effortless, and then the gauntlet falls.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Yeah, Chase. I have a cow under my bed. It's invisible, though, so you can't see it. But sometimes at night it comes out to play. What the hell is wrong with your brain?”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I need you like I need my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need air to breathe, like we need gravity.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I need you like I need my heart
to pump blood through my body, like I need air to
breathe, like we need gravity. Hell, you are my
gravity. Being with you makes me feel centered and
whole, and I’m too screwed up to convince you to want
any different. I’m too selfish to push you into someone
else’s arms when I know mine may be the worst ones
for you to be in.”
I love you.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Cuts heal, bruises fade—but broken hearts? They carry scars for a lifetime.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I would have kissed you harder. I would have fought for you more. I don't know. I would have stolen you away, taken your virtue, made myself so permanently etched on your person that every time you took a breath it was my scent that was permeating the air.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I promise not to shoot him."

"good"

"today”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“If one could call Chase Winter a friend. I was still trying to figure him out. All things considered, I had no doubt in my mind that if I told him I needed someone killed, he wouldn't even ask questions. He'd simply ask who and jog away.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Why was I the lucky one getting haunted by the gangster of Christmas past?”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Great. Note to self. Listen to the godfather.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Remember? I'm the one who keeps you safe. I'm the one that would die for you and all that? why, want me to prove my loyalty?”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“That's stupid." I laughed into his chest. "Boys can't save girls." "You're right." He kissed my temple. "It's the other way around.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“I briefly closed my eyes and imagined him in a Barbie minivan hoping to expel the way his masculinity made me want to strip down to nothing and throw caution to the wind.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“A day ago I was worried he'd look the other way if a car was barreling toward me. Now.. well, now it felt like he would do anything to keep me close - almost as if he'd lost me before and knew what it felt like to be without me. But that was crazy. Clearly I'd never been kissed like that before, because my mind was conjuring up all sorts of crazy stories. I needed to stop reading so much.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“Boots, it’s college. We’re segregated regardless, whether it be by major or class. This is just the way things are here. It keeps everyone safe.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

“If you have a bad feeling about something… If your gut is twisting at the idea of following through with a bad choice… Just say no. Do not be a yes person.”
― Rachel Van Dyken, quote from Elite

Popular quotes

“He walked straight out of college into the waiting arms of the Navy.

They gave him an intelligence test. The first question on the math part had to do with boats on a river: Port Smith is 100 miles upstream of Port Jones. The river flows at 5 miles per hour. The boat goes through water at 10 miles per hour. How long does it take to go from Port Smith to Port Jones? How long to come back?

Lawrence immediately saw that it was a trick question. You would have to be some kind of idiot to make the facile assumption that the current would add or subtract 5 miles per hour to or from the speed of the boat. Clearly, 5 miles per hour was nothing more than the average speed. The current would be faster in the middle of the river and slower at the banks. More complicated variations could be expected at bends in the river. Basically it was a question of hydrodynamics, which could be tackled using certain well-known systems of differential equations. Lawrence dove into the problem, rapidly (or so he thought) covering both sides of ten sheets of paper with calculations. Along the way, he realized that one of his assumptions, in combination with the simplified Navier Stokes equations, had led him into an exploration of a particularly interesting family of partial differential equations. Before he knew it, he had proved a new theorem. If that didn't prove his intelligence, what would?

Then the time bell rang and the papers were collected. Lawrence managed to hang onto his scratch paper. He took it back to his dorm, typed it up, and mailed it to one of the more approachable math professors at Princeton, who promptly arranged for it to be published in a Parisian mathematics journal.

Lawrence received two free, freshly printed copies of the journal a few months later, in San Diego, California, during mail call on board a large ship called the U.S.S. Nevada. The ship had a band, and the Navy had given Lawrence the job of playing the glockenspiel in it, because their testing procedures had proven that he was not intelligent enough to do anything else.”
― Neal Stephenson, quote from Cryptonomicon

“He could smell her crackling white apron and the faint flavour of toast that always hung about her so deliciously.”
― P.L. Travers, quote from Mary Poppins

“You, of all people, deserve a happy ending. Despite everything that happened to you, you aren't bitter. You aren't cold. You've just retreated a little and been shy, and that's okay. If I were a fairy godmother, I would give you your heart's desire in an istant. And I would wipe away your tears and tell you not to cry.

-Rachel to Julia”
― Sylvain Reynard, quote from Gabriel's Inferno

“Jesus meant us to ast God to hep us stand the pain, not beg Him to take the pain away.”
― Olive Ann Burns, quote from Cold Sassy Tree

“Wasn’t it true, then, that everything in his life from that point on had been a succession of things he hadn’t really wanted to do? Taking a hopelessly dull job to prove he could be as responsible as any other family man, moving to an overpriced, genteel apartment to prove his mature belief in the fundamentals of orderliness and good health, having another child to prove that the first one hadn’t been a mistake, buying a house in the country because that was the next logical step and he had to prove himself capable of taking it. Proving, proving; and for no other reason than that he was married to a woman who had somehow managed to put him forever on the defensive, who loved him when he was nice, who lived according to what she happened to feel like doing and who might at any time—this was the hell of it—who might at any time of day or night just happen to feel like leaving him.

It was as ludicrous and as simple as that.”
― Richard Yates, quote from Revolutionary Road

About BookQuoters

BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.

We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.

Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
