A Pho Love Story
Quotes from the Book
All I have are my dreams, and I'm beginning to realize that might not be enough
Home is where you find love
the older I am, the more I resent the implication that it's my responsibility to repay them for my existence
you shouldn’t give up on something that you love for someone who isn’t trying to meet you in the middle.
it's always what will people say? It's never what will make you happy
how much are you willing to sacrifice for your dreams
this house is my own personal nightmare and every day is somehow worst the last but can you leave? asks the voice in my head. I don't know if there was ever any other choice.
This place is my home. These people are my home. I have memories in the cracks of every sidewalk, good and bad. Everywhere I go, I'll see the faces of people who have cherished me. I can run and run and run, but I'm never going to escape.
Welcome to part one of my author’s note: the inspiration behind this book. Just a few years ago, the wildest thing ever happened to me. During my senior year, Tom Holland secretly enrolled in my high school, the Bronx High School of Science, as an undercover student to learn more about American high schools for his upcoming role as Spider-Man. I was lucky enough to meet and talk to him during his time there (literally still reeling in shock if we’re being honest because w h a t), and I’ve always treasured that experience. Since then, an idea has lingered in the back of my head—wouldn’t this be such an incredible concept for a book?
I'm constantly disappointing them by being my own person
That's what pictures are for. Living in memories, even when they're gone.
I wish the world would stop for a minute. [..] I wish we could stay in this moment forever.
I'm not sure how old I was when I realized my parents were never going to love me the way I wanted them to– that their love was conditional, dependent on my own behavior and whether I fit their definition of success.
We're raised to see our parents as infallible, to believe they're incapable of making mistakes– but what about when they do? When they keep making them? What about when their mistakes hurt us?
As it would turn out, I have brain cells I like to actively employ. You should give it a try on occasion.
There are much more interesting things to look at I don't know about that
even if his own happiness isn't a priority-why did I ever think mine would be?
