Coffey on the Mile

We each owe a death, there are no exceptions, I know that, but sometimes, oh God, the Green Mile is so long.

Time takes it all, whether you want it to or not. Time takes it all, bears it away, and in the end there is only darkness. Sometimes we find others in that darkness, and sometimes we lose them there again.

What am I going to say if I end up standing in front of God the Father Almighty and He asks me to explain why I did it? That it was my job? My job?

I think of John saying that Wharton killed the Detterick twins with their love for eachother, and that it happens every day, all over the world. If it happens, God lets it happen, and when we say "I don't understand," God replies, "I don't care.
