“Smiles like that should be against the law. Considering what they do to a girl.”
― Meg Cabot, quote from Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
“I'd leave too, but i still had half a beer left. You can't just leave a beer like that. It's un-American”
― Meg Cabot, quote from Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
“The discovery of a corpse's head on campus has worked as an expedient in getting the administrative staff to work before ten, despite the impending blizzard.”
― Meg Cabot, quote from Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
“But don't you worry," Dad says, after he spends a moment digesting this information, "that if you don't have children, there'll be one one to care for you in your old age?"
"No," I say. "Because I could have children, and they could turn out to hate me. The way I see it, I have friends who care about me now, so I'll probably have friends who'll care about me when I'm old, too. We'll take care of each other.”
― Meg Cabot, quote from Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
“Beautiful girls who love too much, as Lindsay appeared to have done, often meet unpleasant ends.”
― Meg Cabot, quote from Size 14 Is Not Fat Either
“Els coixins porten a dins una part dels teus malsons, dels teus problemes i dels teus somnis. I aquesta és la raó per la qual els posem aquelles fundes: per no veure-hi els rastres de la nostra vida. A ningú no agrada veure's reflectit en un objecte.”
― Albert Espinosa, quote from Everything You and I Could Have Been If We Weren't You and I
“They stared at me, at Isaac, and then at the floor rather than at each other, as if they had long since come to terms with the fact that on any given evening men could burst into their house and do something terrible to them. There's no honest measure for the toll that sort of knowledge takes, whether the scale is the breadth of a single room or an entire city.”
― Dinaw Mengestu, quote from All Our Names
“You don’t hope. You don’t want. That only leads to destruction.”
― Kim Fielding, quote from Rattlesnake
“I tried to call out to them, but instead heard myself saying, "Thank you, I'd love a ride," loud enough for all the ghost hunters to hear.”
― J.D. Horn, quote from The Line
“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.”
― Henry David Thoreau, quote from Walden and other writings
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
