“You thought I was a werewolf?" Dervish asks.
"Yes" I answer hollowly.
"You ass.”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“Stick it up your crack, you warped son of a mutant b*tch!”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“Now sod off back to your own world, you motherless scum, and save your threats for those who care. ”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“You should take more pride in your appearance,” I tell him. “You'll never attract girls with an ugly mug like that.”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“The demons were scary, but girls - Well, girls are really terrifying”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“But you're like me,” he says. “An outsider. Different. A freak. We're both weird, which is why we get along.”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“If I had an ordinary illness, I'm sure they could fix me. But I've seen demons rip my world to pieces. Nobody believes that, so nobody knows what I'm going through. I'm alone. I always will be. That's my life now. That's just the way it is.”
― Darren Shan, quote from Lord Loss
“Colpo di fulmine. The thunderbolt, as Italians call it. When love strikes someone like lightning, so powerful and intense it can’t be denied. It’s beautiful and messy,
cracking a chest open and spilling their soul out for the world to see. It turns a person inside out, and there’s no going back from it. Once the thunderbolt hits, your life is
irrevocably changed.”
― J.M. Darhower, quote from Sempre
“She wore a boiled shirt and a bow-tie, and her hair, though long and bound, was sleek with oil. She was about two- or three-and-thirty, and her waist was thick; but her upper lip, at least, was dark as a boy’s. They would have called her terribly handsome, I guessed, in about 1880.”
― Sarah Waters, quote from Tipping the Velvet
“It dawned on them that unlike Aunt Josephine, who had lived up in that house, sad and alone, the three children had one another for comfort and support over the course of their miserable lives. And while this did not make them feel entirely safe, or entirely happy, it made them feel appreciative.
They leaned up against one another appreciatively, and small smiles appeared on their damp and anxious faces. They had each other. I'm not sure that "The Beaudelaires had each other" is the moral of this story, but to the three siblings it was enough. To have each other in the midst of their unfortunate lives felt like having a sailboat in the middle of a hurricane, and to the Beaudelaire orphans this felt very fortunate indeed.”
― Lemony Snicket, quote from The Wide Window
“Always be comic in a tragedy. What the deuce else can you do?”
― G.K. Chesterton, quote from The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare
“The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of all true art and science. He to whom”
― Walter Isaacson, quote from Einstein: His Life and Universe
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
