“Some things must be done however much we wish to avoid them.”
― Michelle Zink, quote from Guardian of the Gate
“But I know that in order to get to the end of a thing, one must start at the beginning.”
― Michelle Zink, quote from Guardian of the Gate
“Still, experience has taught me that knowing one's enemy is key to winning any battle.”
― Michelle Zink, quote from Guardian of the Gate
“but I learned long ago that it does no good to think too far into the future. There is only here. Only now.”
― Michelle Zink, quote from Guardian of the Gate

“But you have to take control of your destiny. And sometimes that's not easy.”
― Mari Mancusi, quote from Gamer Girl
“I don’t think it’s overstating it to say that my religion of choice became VHS rentals, and that its messages came in Technicolor and musical montages and fades and jump cuts and silver-screen legends and B-movie nobodies and villains to root for and good guys to hate. But Ruth was wrong, too. There was more than just one other world beyond ours; there were hundreds and hundreds of them, and at 99 cents apiece I could rent them all.”
― Emily M. Danforth, quote from The Miseducation of Cameron Post
“And it was then I began to realize for the first time that there are two distinct sides to a writer of fiction. First, there is the side he displays to the public, that of an ordinary person like anyone else, a person who does ordinary things and speaks ordinary language. Second, there is the secret side, which comes out in him only after he has closed the door of his workroom and is completely alone. It is then that he slips into another world altogether, a world where his imagination takes over and he finds himself actually living in the places he is writing about at that moment. I myself, if you want to know, fall into a kind of trance, and everything around me disappears. I see only the point of my pencil moving over the paper, and quite often two hours go by as though they were a couple of seconds.”
― Roald Dahl, quote from The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More
“Nothing strong can be built on a foundation of lies and omissions.”
― Isabel Allende, quote from Maya's Notebook
“As it is with a play, so it is with life - what matters is not how long the acting lasts, but how good it is.”
― Seneca, quote from Letters from a Stoic (a selection)
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
