“Why do all your brilliant ideas involve felonies?”
“An elite confederacy of nerds. My peeps”
“Who's going to rob us? A crackhead crab? A jellyfish junkie?”
“Parallel tough-guy nods. Man fix boat! Man be strong!
"What now?" I asked, hoping to divert the two from actually beating their chests.”
“Let's do it. Monkeys are always funny. You pretty much can't go wrong with a monkey, right? Hi paused. Well unless that monkey wants you dead, or does needle drugs or something. Then it's wrong, and a bad monkey.”
“I can't believe you jokers fixed it." Hi was picking his way down to the beach.
"Believe it, clown. Too much brain power here to fail." Still pumped, Shelton threw another palm Ben's way.
"Oh, I'm sure." Hi streched, yawned. "It was something highly technical, I suppose? Something requiring mechanical ability? Nothing as simple as tightening a wire or flippin a switch, right?"
Ben reddened. Shelton developed an intrest in his sneakers.
Score one for Hi.”
“Baravetto was unconscious when we found him," Hi said. "What'd you do to the guy?"
"Kicked him in the balls, then brained him with a rolling pin. Twice.”
“You all right now?"
"I'm exceptional. Wonderful. Thanks for the concern. You complete me.”
“God help anyone who messes with the Virals!”
“Chance wore a white tuxedo with tails. On anyone else? Doopy. On him? Yes, please.”
“The current phone obsession is a disease,” Chance said. “Everyone’s gone mad, typing to themselves all day long like mindless robots.”
“Where is the dog tag you found?”
“What?” Shelton yipped. “We…lost it.”
“Where?”
“In the woods. After we ran.”
“Where in the woods? Ran from what?”
“Oh, uh…Tory dropped the tag when we ran from…whatever.”
“From whatever?” Hi hammered. “Did you see men with guns or not?”
“Um, no. I guess not.”
“You guess?”
“It was dark.” Shelton struggled. “I realize now that nobody was there.”
“Then what did you hear?”
“Uh, er…pops. Like sticks breaking?”
Shelton’s responses were growing increasingly feeble.
“How many? From which direction?”
“Lots. Like, from everywhere.”
Hi’s eyebrows shot up. “You heard ‘lots’ of ‘pops like sticks’ coming from everywhere? That’s your story?”
“Wait, no, not everywhere. From the…left?”
“Won't you take me to Monkey-Town?”
“We may suck at breaking in to places, but we're money at sneaking out!”
“God bless the poor, God bless the sick, And bless our human race. God bless our food, God bless our drink, All homes, O God, embrace.”
“Until I get the keys to the Kingdom, Lord, I ain't giving up.”
“I'm sympathetic to the nuns' violent impulses. I mean, if I'd given up sex to devote myself to a man who I had to just trust loved me, despite never being physically around to prove it, I'd probably be smacking little children too.”
“Sometimes distance was easier than acting, or explaining.”
“So what about that key?" I asked.
"I knew you'd be asking me about it sooner or later." He pulled the cord out from underneath his shirt and dangled the key in front of me.
"What do you want for it?" I sneered. "Five dollars?"
"I don't want money," he said with a wicked grin.
"What does it go to?"
"A kiss will unlock more than this key will," he whispered in my ear.”
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
