“He sat up straight, eyes wide, and touched the tip of his index finger to his cheek. "What was that?"
I blushed. "A kiss."
"That's what a kiss feels like?"
"Well, technically. There are a lot of different types of—"
"Show me."
"Show you what?"
"Show me some other kinds."
"You're asking me to kiss you?"
(Dez and Kale)”
“As long as I know this" - he lifted our joined hands - "is mine to hold, I'll wait for you forever.”
“Current relationship status?” Her voice cut like an arctic chill blowing through the room.
“If you mean me, then you’re not my type. If you mean my dad, he’s single, but I don’t think you’re his type either,” I said with a small smile. Mercy didn’t find it amusing. A small blue vein in her forehead started throbbing like crazy....“Actually, come to think of it, I don’t think he has a type. I’ve never seen him with a woman.
Mercy, I hate to break it to you, but there’s a very real possibility my dad is gay.”
“If I had the ability to touch anyone else in this world, I still don't believe I'd want it to be anyone but you.”
“I backed us up against the wall. “How I feel? You want to know?” I ran my hands over his face and tangled them into his messy hair. “This is unlike anything else. I’ve bungeed off buildings, I’ve skateboarded off roofs. I’ve even gone train surfing. Nothing comes close to the high I feel when I’m with you. You’ve been through horrible things, and yet you’re one of the kindest, truest people I’ve ever met. At first I thought it was because you were
safe. I could feel something for you because you couldn’t hurt me. Not the way Alex did. But it’s more than that. It’s you. Who you are. The way you are. Everything from your smile to the way you always say exactly what’s on your mind. Your soul, Kale.”
“I love you," he said. [...] "Just you. Only you. Always you.”
“Things had gone from really weird to I-fell-down-the-rabbit-hole surreal.”
“For me," he said. It came out as a cross between a choked growl and a whimpher. It was shocked, and it was possessive. Full of pain, and laced with joy. "You were made for me.”
“That was your past. I am your future.”
“I'm never going to get used to that," he said, smiling.
"Used to what?"
"The way I feel like I'm going to explode every time you come close. The way my head fills up with just you when you do that.”
“„One down,” I said, turning to Kale. He wasn't paying attention. His gaze was fixed on the red silk baby doll in my hand.
„What is this?” he asked, rubbing the satiny material between his fingers.
„Clothes” I said. „For women.”
His eyes widened. „Girls wear this?”
„Yeah, but usually not for long” I chuckled.
Kale turned as red as the teddy. „Are you going to wear this now?”
„Umm. No,” I said, blushing.
He seemed a little disappointed and I stifled a laugh.”
“All these places I want to go don't exist without you. All my goals come from one place. You. You are my biggest goal. That's not wrong, is it?”
“I think I understand that now. I think I love you.”
“Wow!" Fin let out a sharp whistle. "You look hot, Dez. You can raid my tomb whenever you'd like.”
“As I walked away, I heard Kale tell Fin to stop staring at my ass or he was going to punish him. I couldn’t help but smile.”
“My jaw dropped. Forget balls, this guy had boulders.”
“Dad would be home soon. This might work to my advantage. I knew bringing the guy home would royally piss him off. He’d have puppies if he found a stranger in the house. Hell, he might even have a llama.”
“„I understand now, Dez,” his whispered sleepily. „I understand the hand thing.”
“I wondered what the FML post would look like.
"Today, when my father tried to shoot me, I found out he was an assassin monger who's been keeping my mom locked away in a secret facility for freaky killers. FML."
Seriously. F.M.L.”
“„This is what people do here?”
„It's a little more complicated than that.”
„Everything seems complicated here,” he grumbled.
„That"s life,” I laughed. „Life is complicated.”
„And that's good?”
I nodded. „That's good.”
“I was worried about you. Wanted to make sure you were okay.” “Next time, use the phone. Or email. Hell, use a carrier pigeon.”
“Why does my heart pump faster when we’re close? How is it you do that to me?”
“Any sentient entity who has lived, has changed.”
“there are two types of codes, ciphers, and true codes. In the first, letters, or symbols that stand for letters, are shuffled and juggled according to a pattern. In the second, letters, words, or groups of words are replaced by other letters, symbols, or words. A code can be one type or the other, or a combination. But both have this in common: once you find the key, you just plug it in and out come logical sentences. A language, however, has its own internal logic, its own grammar, its own way of putting thoughts together with words that span various spectra of meaning. There is no key you can plug in to unlock the exact meaning. At best you can get a close approximation.”
“You got to get outta here, Josie. New Orleans is fine for some people, real good for a few. But not for you. Too much baggage that’ll pull you down. You got dreams and the potential to make ’em real.”
“This book has been written to examine some of the ways love heals and helps a person to climb impossible heights and rise from immeasurable depths.”
“foolish men say things in anger that they later regret and an angry tongue does not mean one is guilty.”
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
