“You were my single greatest adventure.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“What's the difference between look and see?
When someone looks at you, they only see what's on the surface and often miss a lot of the details. When someone sees you, they see who you are, what you're actually about. They see more than what's there in front of them. They're willing to find out more, at the very least. ~ Evie Snow”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“Why should I shatter your wonderful fantasy with my boring reality? ~ Evie Snow”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“Ask me something that will make me think. Something I'll have to wonder whether I should tell you the answer to or not. ~ Evie Snow”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“No, I won't be hopeless. I am full of hope. I'm a HopeFUL. ~ Evie Snow”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“I think about it all the time, about what makes everyone who they are, and if we went back in time and changed anything, whether or not it would make a difference. Would it make us better or worse, or would we just stay exactly the same because we were always destined to end up this way no matter what happened throughout our lives? ~ Evie Snow”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“When you eat a chocolate bar, sure, the wrapper might be pretty, full of bold colours and fancy details ... but ultimately, what do you care about? The wrapper? Or what's inside the wrapper?
The chocolate. I care about the chocolate inside the wrapper.
Exactly! For me, it's the same with people. I don't care about what's on the outside. I care about what's on the inside. Someone's mind. Their heart and soul. For me, it doesn't matter whether they're a man or a woman. That's only the wrapper they come in. What I really care about is the chocolate. It's called being pan-sexual. ~ Isla”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“He was a giant who had caught a butterfly and knew he'd only kill it if he kept it but was so reluctant to let it go for its beauty made him something he wouldn't be without it: happy.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“As individuals they were stone, but together they were glass.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“Bad stories can create good people, and I wanted to protect them from those bad stories so they could live with the good person they'd created without ever worrying about what I had to go through to become that person. I kept those secrets because I needed to . . . and sometimes it's OK to make those kinds of decisions for the sake of your own happiness.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“it only takes sparks to light a fire”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“The colours of her heart represented the deeds she'd done, both good and bad, but the faint smell of treacle told her that, overall, she had a sweet heart.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“His gaze was fixed on her and he noticed she had a twinkle. It was right there in her eyes. It wasn't a trick of the light. It was actually, physically there. Maybe it was the slight crunch of her nose when she smiled at him, which made the corners of her eyes crease that caused it, or maybe it was the way her eyebrows framed her eyes, but no matter what it was, when he saw that twinkle all he heared in his head was his heart laughing. ~ Vincent Winters”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“even though she didn't love him, it was clear to both of them that their souls were made of the same stuff.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“As individuals they were stone, but together they were glass, and their families danced a ballet around them, careful not to ripple the peace they had found.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“To me, the world sounds warm and hushed.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“Yes, that dream ultimately failed, but I learned so much. Mostly tiny things, but it only takes a spark to light a fire. All those tiny things accumulated to make me who I am. If none of it had happened, I could have lived a far worse lie than I did. That's why, despite all the heartbreak, the failure and the secrets, if I was given the chance to go back in time and change things, I wouldn't. Not even a second.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“Great adventures can start small.
Even as small as a sweet.
Help yourself to an adventure.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“There were rules that told him he was supposed to wait three days before he called her again after tonight, and that he was supposed to seem uninterested to make her want him more, but he had never liked playing games that involved manipulating how people felt. Feelings were confusing enough without people toying with them to make them fit their own needs.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

“As she placed her stil-beating heart in the hole she'd dug, there on it's surface another golden fleck swirled into existence. It was then that she knew she was doing the right thing. Keeping her own heart when she'd already decided who it belonged to felt wrong, as if she was holding stolen possessions. No. Her heart was no longer hers, couldn't be Vincent's, and sadly, was never to be Jim's.”
― Carrie Hope Fletcher, quote from On the Other Side

Popular quotes

“Have you ever noticed that every now and then you'll overhear an amazingly clear declarative sentence when you're out in public, spoken with such force and purpose that you absolutely yearn to know what it means, because it is just so forceful and crystalline? And you want to follow along behind whoever just spoke, even though you don;t know them, just to find out what that sentence means and how it would affect the lives of the people involved?”
― Jeff Lindsay, quote from Dexter By Design

“All he felt now was envy. These people had expectations. Of the world, of the future, it didn't matter--expectation was such an innovative concept to him that he couldn't help but be a bit moved by what they were saying. Whatever that was.”
― Colson Whitehead, quote from Apex Hides the Hurt

The Layers

I have walked through many lives,
some of them my own,
and I am not who I was,
though some principle of being
abides, from which I struggle
not to stray.
When I look behind,
as I am compelled to look
before I can gather strength
to proceed on my journey,
I see the milestones dwindling
toward the horizon
and the slow fires trailing
from the abandoned camp-sites,
over which scavenger angels
wheel on heavy wings.
Oh, I have made myself a tribe
out of my true affections,
and my tribe is scattered!
How shall the heart be reconciled
to its feast of losses?
In a rising wind
the manic dust of my friends,
those who fell along the way,
bitterly stings my face.
Yet I turn, I turn,
exulting somewhat,
with my will intact to go
wherever I need to go,
and every stone on the road
precious to me.
In my darkest night,
when the moon was covered
and I roamed through wreckage,
a nimbus-clouded voice
directed me:
“Live in the layers,
not on the litter.”
Though I lack the art
to decipher it,
no doubt the next chapter
in my book of transformations
is already written.
I am not done with my changes.”
― Stanley Kunitz, quote from The Collected Poems of Stanley Kunitz

“After killing the dancer, he dismembered her body, boiled her head in a kitchen pot, and placed bits of her flesh in buckets he then kept in storage facilities. Having cooked her flesh, he then, in an act of grotesque generosity, dispensed some to the homeless in his neighborhood as "meat.”
― quote from The Anatomy of Evil

“Loosely translated Der schlechte Affe hasst seinen eigenen Geruch means that people are most deeply offended by moral failings that mirror their own.”
― Matt Ruff, quote from Bad Monkeys

About BookQuoters

BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.

We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.

Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
