“Is this your car?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“No. I thought I’d steal one and drive it into town. Think
anyone will notice?” Graham reached across to unlock the passenger’s-
side door, then pushed it open. “You wouldn’t know
how to hotwire by any chance?”
― Anastasia Hopcus, quote from Shadow Hills
“The real reason I couldn’t tear my gaze away, the thing that
turned my muscles to ice even as my skin burned, was the one
and only thought running through my mind: That’s him. That is
the guy from my dream.”
― Anastasia Hopcus, quote from Shadow Hills
“Think about my invitation. It’s not a bad way to start off the year—on the arm of the most eligible bachelor in
school . . . See you tomorrow, Goldilocks.” Trent winked and,
finally releasing my captive hand, walked away.”
― Anastasia Hopcus, quote from Shadow Hills
“But I did what I had to do. We aren’t supposed to be with outsiders. These
are the rules we live by, and there’s a reason for them."
-Corinne Redford”
― Anastasia Hopcus, quote from Shadow Hills
“You can't leave, Zach," Corinne said through gritted teeth.
He walked right past her. "Watch me.”
― Anastasia Hopcus, quote from Shadow Hills
“She should be more frightened herself, she knew. She was only ten, a skinny girl on a stolen horse with a dark forest ahead of her and men behind who would gladly cut off her feet. Yet somehow she felt calmer than ever had in Harrenhal. The rain had washed the guard's blood off her fingers, she wore a sword across her back, wolves were prowling through the dark like lean grey shadows, and Arya Stark was unafraid. Fear cuts deeper than swords, she whispered under her breath, the words that Syrio Forel had taught her, and Jaqen's words too, valar morghulis.”
― George R.R. Martin, quote from A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow
“Macon: “It’s true. And if that doesn’t work, use the Jedi Mind Trick. But only if you really have to.”
Halley: “The what?”
Macon: “The Jedi Mind Trick.” He looked at me. “Didn’t you ever see Star Wars?”
― Sarah Dessen, quote from Someone Like You
“However contradictory the coroner's report — whether he pronounces Consumption or Loneliness or Suicide to be the cause of death — isn't it plain how the true artist-seer actually dies? I say that the true artist-seer, the heavenly fool who can and does produce beauty, is mainly dazzled to death by his own scruples, the blinding shapes and colors of his own sacred human conscience.”
― J.D. Salinger, quote from Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters & Seymour: An Introduction
“If you ever…ever… touch her again, I swear to God, Grady, I‟ll fucking kill you. Do you hear me?”
― Kimberly Derting, quote from The Body Finder
“Mr Pickwick awoke the next morning, there was not a symptom of rheumatism about him; which proves, as Mr Bob Sawyer very justly observed, that there is nothing like hot punch in such cases; and that if ever hot punch did fail to act as a preventive, it was merely because the patient fell in to the vulgar error of not taking enough of it.”
― Charles Dickens, quote from The Pickwick Papers
BookQuoters is a community of passionate readers who enjoy sharing the most meaningful, memorable and interesting quotes from great books. As the world communicates more and more via texts, memes and sound bytes, short but profound quotes from books have become more relevant and important. For some of us a quote becomes a mantra, a goal or a philosophy by which we live. For all of us, quotes are a great way to remember a book and to carry with us the author’s best ideas.
We thoughtfully gather quotes from our favorite books, both classic and current, and choose the ones that are most thought-provoking. Each quote represents a book that is interesting, well written and has potential to enhance the reader’s life. We also accept submissions from our visitors and will select the quotes we feel are most appealing to the BookQuoters community.
Founded in 2023, BookQuoters has quickly become a large and vibrant community of people who share an affinity for books. Books are seen by some as a throwback to a previous world; conversely, gleaning the main ideas of a book via a quote or a quick summary is typical of the Information Age but is a habit disdained by some diehard readers. We feel that we have the best of both worlds at BookQuoters; we read books cover-to-cover but offer you some of the highlights. We hope you’ll join us.
